Initial Review of Point 65 Falcon Kayak

Good afternoon Point 65.

Thank for safe delivery of the Falcon kayak. There were a couple of small holes in
the cardboard box itself but no damage to the kayak inside. All in all a good service from FedEx. Thank you.

I bought the Falcon as, with increasing age and a damaged shoulder, I found myself unable anymore to lift our existing sit-on kayak (a Perception Triumph 13) up onto the roof rack of our car. A good friend already has a Falcon so I, on her recommendation, bought one as well.

I was surprised when I I packed the kayak that there weren’t any assembly/disassemble instructions with it but, with the aid of a couple of YouTube videos, I managed to assemble the kayak relatively easily.

However when it came to disassembly I found it a lot more difficult and no matter how hard I tried I couldn’t do it on my own. I just couldn’t hold the ratchet release toggles down while at the same time lifting the rear section away. However, with the help of my wife to hold the locking strap release toggles down, I was then able to lift the rear section up and away. As you may appreciate that, as I am planning on kayaking on my own, this wasn’t a feasible longterm solution. In the end I worked out that if I inserted a thin metal object between the jaws of the ratcheting and locking ratchet and the body to hold the jaws open and away from the strap then I could separate the two halves of the kayak on my own.

May I suggest that in future you think about designing a locking mechanism to hold the ratchet open while separating the two halves.

Also when manoeuvring the two halves on land prior to assembly there is, apart from the bow strap, nothing to hold onto to lift that section easily. May I suggest a side strap at the mid point to assist with this. The rear section poses no problem as you can use the stern and back rest straps together.

One small additional point; on my existing kayak there is a provision for a paddle safety strap to be attached. It only needs to be a small D ring to satisfy this.

Anyway I hope you find this helpful. May I congratulate you on an excellent product especially for us ageing paddlers.

With kind regards,

Jonnie

Falcon canoe

Used it 4 times by now totally paddled 10km
This is my first canoe so i m not much of an advice giver but its really easy to assemble, seems durable with small waves,3bf max I believe.disasemble was harder than assemble but when you get the use of it it's fine.
Overall it's a good product and it seems build to last.even if the connectors somehow become damaged it shouldn't be difficult to replace

Excellent. Would be better though with extra handles for transporting the individual sections and video of how to take the kayak apart would be very helpful.

The kayak is easy to handle and easy to paddle. It fits good inside my car. I´m very satisfied.

Mixed feelings

The main pros:
1. The modular system is great for transport and storage but the most important part is how it handles on the water.
2. Connecting takes some practice but after that it is a great system.

Some of the cons I found:
1. Rear connection leaking when using the tandem. Can’t find a reason tried to slightly move the connections but still leaks. Btw you can look through the connection so seams not to fit good enough. When using the kayak as a single there is no problem. This occurs even when my wife and daughter use the tandem (combined weight 115kg)
2. My weight is 110 kg. This is really too much for the kayak. As a single I did expect this as the maximum capacity is 100kg. But I hoped with the tandem option and my wife (60kg)in the other seat it would work. It doesn’t.
3. As a tandem kayak stability is great, as a single the stability is bad. If the water is completely calm it is ok but with the slightest wave the instability makes it very hard to balance.
4. Be careful with the snap tap as with little power you easily break of the plastic lever.
5. Separate parts are difficult to handle because of the lack of carrying points

Efficient Modular

I used the falcon this summer in the Aegean Sea. It is a very convenient kayak for those who don't have enough space in their cars. Don't know how it fits in smaller cars but in an Opel Astra hatchback you need to try hard. Difficulties in connecting the parts in the beginning. After a couple of times it becomes more easy. Quality of materials is very good.

Mixed Feelings

The kayak fits into the back of my small Kia Picanto (just), so that is brilliant.
The front and back sections need a handle in the middle for ease of carrying, because although the sections aren't heavy, they are awkward in size to carry.
It is difficult for me as a 166 cm woman to stand over the sections to join/dismantle them. I think this potential problem should be highlighted on the website.
Very quick delivery - arrived in Finland the next day!

Love it

Dispatched and arrived very quickly from Sweden. This modular tandem is easy to store easily transportable in the car boot with the back seats down. It is reasonably light , easy to assemble and take apart and the best bit is it is lovely on the water.

Good but not great

I just bought one of these and it is leaking in the rear connection point. Not sure why?

OK but

I find separating the two pieces difficult, but I guess I will get better with practice.
My only real complaint is the lack of handles, it is difficult to carry the assembled kayak by oneself and when separated each piece has only a handle one end and is thus difficult to hold, ie when putting the pieces in a car.

Fantastic.

Seems a great product but you really need to put handles on the front and rear sections to make it an even better product. I'm dragging it instead of lifting it as there are NO HANDLES !!!!

Brilliant but...

I love having a hard shell modular kayak, it’s brilliant but why oh why no handles in the middle. There are handles at the front and back but nowhere to catch hold of on the sides so it’s hard to carry and to upright after capsize (I could explain better by video). Also I’m really struggling to release the ratchet strap but I’m hoping that will get easier (I prefer the previous ratchet release catch design). Point65 modular kayaks are unique and high quality. I’m overall very happy with my new toy.
